Can you imagine this? For some reason
I picture the Sentinels jumping up and down until the bridge collapses.
Most likely ropes were used with the Sentinels to pull out
some the the supports.

Hit-and-run raids of the type carried out during the retreat
are normally the domain of light cavalry.
Heavy cavalry usually is too slow and short on endurance to
retreat effectively.
Most likely the heavy cavalry commanders dispensed with much
of the usual armour and other equipment that wouldn't be useful under these circumstances.

This is a pretty sloppy and dangerous way to cross a river.
I'm sure that it should read "Once a 'solid' dam..."
I'm sure the Darshaks may have employed some seige bridges
that they had with them as well.
If Mobius had left some archers at the Aethry I'm sure it would
have been very good practice.

Hit and run tactics like this are still taught to this day.
These were pretty conventional cavalry manouvers.

Very little remains of the original defences of Hyrios these
days. Most of the city was destroyed during the Battle of Tears or was torn down
to use in the defences. What remained was rebuilt and later expanded on to become
the Ascendancy's premier academic city.

Mobius' planning seems a bit sinister
to me here. He could have done much as he had on the Aethry and trapped and battered
the Darshak on the north side of the Gula. Instead he appears to have deliberately
planned to destroy Hyrios.

I doubt Mobius actually sent anybody away. Most likely the
civilian population fled of their own accord - they weren't stupid after all!
