Nearly five and a half centuries ago a young Human named Mobius appeared on the plains of Rosyaye with an army of constructs he called his Sentinels. The precise origins of these constructs and of Mobius himself remain a mystery to this day. Rumors have placed Mobius' origins in every Human Kingdom, amongst the Sylvans, as an orphan raised by Thooms, and even as a disgruntled Darshak Priest! Whatever the case, the kings of Keril, Rosyaye, Ren'tlic and The Far Isles were impressed enough with Mobius and the Sentinels to grant him command over all their armies.
Mobius led the human armies to victory against the Darshak during what we now refer to as year 1 of The Ascendancy. If you are interested in the dry details of his victory I'd suggest reading: "Mobius' Battles Against the Darshak Menace". A truly painful to read publication of the Imperial War College, written by Colonel Praxis in the year 257. There is an annotated copy in the Puddleby Library. I should warn you that his close adherence to the most strict interpretations of the Compact means there is no mention of the different races in Praxis' work, and many details of the war are missing. Suffice it to say, and as we all know: Mobius won and that's why we're all here. Events elsewhere in the Western Continent during that time may be of more interest even though they didn't effect the future of The Ascendancy to any great extent. DwarvesVery little pertinent Dwarven history exists from the time of the Darshak war. Geography and somewhat isolationist feelings kept the Dwarves well clear of what they viewed as purely Human events. Gorak ZoI was unable to find any known Gorak Zo history prior to their invasion of The Ascendancy in the year 233. As such they won't be mentioned until I reach that time frame. HalflingsAs soon as the snows had melted in north western Brimoa the Halflings made some cautious incursions into Darshak territories. The Halflings were rather surprised to face very little resistance - nearly all the Darshak were amongst the armies facing Mobius far to the south. Enterprising bands of Halfling warriors made it as far south as White Rock and as far east as Liranth by the end of the Darshak war. 3 |
