| It was 300 years ago, in the year 236, that there arose the greatest rebellion against the Ascendancy that has ever been. The Uli Rebellion. Words that even yet evoke a thrill of anger; of horror; and, ultimately, of fear. For it was a time of bloodshed such that Shan Deral had not seen for over 200 years, and has not seen since. It stands still as the most enduring testimony of the might of Mobius, and of the iron hand within the velvet glove of the Compact.
Well might one ask the reasons for studying such events in the dim dark depths of history, and well might I answer by pointing to the blood of all those who have refused to learn from what came before. Thus we seek to understand this bloody time. Not solely that such tragedy may be avoided, although that desire must be foremost in the minds of all. But also that we might learn from history, and in so doing, sow the seeds of our own freedom. Freedom, to which the heroes of the Uli Rebellion first showed the way. |
