THE HOUSE OF VOLTAR
BY TUZAR Tuzar still writes only in the Dwarven runic script, therefore he has asked me to translate the following work which touches on the history and culture of his people, the House of Voltar, the White Flame. I remind our readers that this is solely Tuzar's work, not mine. I have used the form "Whiteflame" when strictly a translation of Zhumdorch, and "the White Flame" when referring to the people of Voltar or Voltar himself. HISTORY OF WHITEFLAME The Eighth House of the Dwarves is the House of Voltar. For many years the House of Voltar was called nothing but the House of Voltar. The followers of Voltar were called Frostbeards and got the reputation of being wild, drunk berzerks. The first temple to Voltar was raised under the mountains of Zhumdorch (Zhum=white, Dorch=flame). Zhumdorch was named after its top which was shaped like a flame, but it was always covered by snow, thus it was a white flame. Why did they build a temple at one of the coldest places in the world? Once a huge group of Dwarves was driven out of their home by a wave of evil monsters. Many were slain and those who survived had to flee from the evil. Thousands of Dwarves wandered across the lands and searched for a place to live. They searched everywhere, but if the spot was not already taken it was not safe because the overwhelming evil was too near. There was only one solution: they had to travel to the Icy Mountains of the north. The news of their torture reached Voltar himself who lived in those same Icy Mountains. Voltar was in a deep rage over these events, and he knew that the Dwarven men, women, and children needed all the help they could get. In the blink of an eye Voltar sat on the back of Clowe, his Dragon. Flying toward the Dwarves like a bolt of lightning Clowe rushed through the clouds. Voltar arrived and saw that his sons and daughters had run out of food. He jumped down from Clowe and told the Dragon to gather food for his family. Clowe, Elder Dragon as he was, hunted with godly might. Every ten minutes Clowe came back to the camp with at least ten big animals such as Starbucks and Bears. Voltar spoke to his children and gave them courage to continue the journey. Knowing that the Axe of Voltar was protecting them, all their fear disappeared. Voltar led the Dwarves to the mountain of Zhumdorch, his home. When they arrived Voltar gave away his underground realm to the Dwarves. Small though the delving was, such fine miners as the Dwarves were dug tunnels, temples, and blacksmithies where they forged their great two-handed axes. No matter how much he wanted to, Voltar could not live with his children since he was a god. Instead, Voltar gave his axe Armudin to the Dwarves. The Axe contained the Fiery Spirit of the mountain Zhumdorch and the Rage of Voltar. The followers of Voltar, the Frostbeards, built an immense Temple to Voltar and Armudin. Everyday, people venerated Armudin to show it their respect. As long as Armudin is safe within the mountains of Zhumdorch it will give the Spirit of Voltar and the Spirit of the Mountain to all Frostbeards for eternity. Thus they will remain the wild, fearless berserks that they have always been.
VOLTAR, THE WHITE FLAME, FATHER OF FROST This is one of the few paintings of Voltar. As you can see he is dressed completely in Red (the color of Victory) and Green (the color of Life). Voltar is a fierce berserk. His Spirit is shared by all the Frostbeards. According to legend there is an ocean full of godly beer beneath Voltar's First Castle on Whiteflame, which was the only reason that he lived there. The First Castle of Voltar disappeared mysteriously after a horrible earthquake and since then it has never been found, But that is a story to be told another time. Voltar is known to be the most thirsty Dwarf in this world. Many stories are told about Voltar and his drinking. Voltar once drank in a contest against his brothers, and he won with the impressive 265 kegs of beer. The supply had run out so he could not continue to drink any more. As the saying goes, you can never have too much beer, only too little!
THE WAYS OF VOLTAR In battle you must know no fear. You must never flee from a fight and leave your friends behind to face the enemy alone. Fight your opponent till either he or you is defeated. To flee from fair man-to-man battle is the most cowardly thing you can do. Never attack an innocent creature. If the creature attacks you it is no longer innocent. Un-innocent creatures: The creatures of Mobu never deserve to "live" (they are mostly undead). The Orga, Undine and all children of Mobu: Slay them on sight! The Darshaks are thieves of Beer! Death to Darshaks! Treat all Dwarves as your brothers and sisters. They are. The followers of the White Flame are well known for their short tempers, but a Frostbeard would never dream about fighting one of his brothers or sisters! In the White Flame men and women are treated as equals. Many of the most famous Berzerks and Priests were in fact women. For example, Truniza (who was said to be the great-great-great-granddaughter of Voltar) was the High Berzerk of the White Flame for over 100 years, until she died during a battle against the Orga. When Truniza died, after many years of training her son Drundor became the High Berzerk, though he never became as renowned in battle as Truniza, it was obvious that the blood of Truniza was flowing in Drundor's veins.
