DWARVEN MYTHOLOGY
Under Construction. The ramblings of Math and Tuzar. As you know, all Dwarves are come from Eleven families, and still today each Dwarf identifies very strongly with the "House" or "Clan" of his ancestors. Many families are known simply by the names of their Founders. The 11 Founders, or simply the Eleven as they are sometimes known, are thought to be the greatest creation of the God of the Forge. I sat down with Lord Tuzar Bloodblade the other day for a chat. Like me he is a priest and is greatly interested in setting down the histories and myths of our folk. The name of the Great Forger is rarely spoken. Among some old myths of my people He is sometimes called Mordax, and Tuzar says that among his people He has been known by similar names. Still we search for evidence of His true name, if he has one, or proof that Mordax is indeed the name by which He was known to the ancients. Of Mobu, evil twin brother of the Forger, little is known but the name. Tuzar is intensely researching creation myths and other ancient tales that deal with him. Of the Eleven we know little. Well, I have heard many tales of Zorax, Father of my House, and naturally Tuzar knows many a legend of the mighty Voltar, the White Flame, Father of his Family. But for each of us the other ten are little more than names and vague legends. Indeed, we do not truly even know the names. The House of Voltar, for example, speak of the father of the First House as Zorah, not Zorax. It is reasonable to say that the only ones who know their true names are their own folk. I invite any readers from one of the other nine Houses to step forward and offer the name of their Founder and the history and culture of your people. The tales of Tuzar's people are rich with the exploits of the Founders. Unfortunately, many of the traditions of the carefree House of Voltar are mainly oral, passed down in rowdy ballads and tales by word of mouth. Here is a list we have been able to constuct so far of the names of the Eleven. As I already mentioned, Zorax appears in Tuzar's tales as Zorah, which is very close. It is possible that some fathers who do not appear in the tales as often as Zorax, Eldest of the Fathers, may be much different from their original form. THE ELEVEN: TENTATIVE LIST
